Cookie policy

Effective date: 01/01/2026

1. Introduction

Plantle (“we”, “our”, “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies to make the game work correctly and to improve the user experience. This Cookie Policy explains what cookies we set, why we set them, and how you can manage them. It is provided in addition to our full Privacy Policy.

2. What are cookies?

A cookie is a small piece of text stored on your device (computer, tablet or smartphone) by a website. Cookies can be:

Type Description
First‑party cookies Set by Plantle’s own domain (plantle.com).
Third‑party cookies Set by a domain other than Plantle’s. We do not use any third‑party cookies.
Session cookies Exist only while you have the browser open; they are deleted when you close the browser.
Persistent cookies Remain on your device for a set period of time after you close the browser.

3. Cookies we use

Cookie name Purpose Type Expiry
plantle_session Identifies the current logged‑in session so you stay signed in while navigating the site. Strictly necessary, first‑party Session (deleted when the browser is closed) or persists if the user selected remember me when logging in
device_id Stores a unique identifier that links your game score to your account (or to a temporary guest profile). Strictly necessary, first‑party Persistent – 30 days
shown_rules Flags whether this is your first visit so we can show the tutorial on the initial load. Strictly necessary, first‑party Persistent – 30 days

Why these cookies are “strictly necessary”
These cookies are essential for Plantle to function: without them you would be logged out after each page refresh, your score could not be saved, and the introductory tutorial would not know when to appear. Because they are strictly necessary, no consent is required under UK ePrivacy regulations, although we still provide full transparency.

4. Analytics – no cookies required

We use Plausible Analytics to gather aggregate usage statistics (e.g., number of visits, pages viewed). Plausible works without setting any cookies and does not collect personal data, so it does not fall under the cookie‑consent regime.

5. Managing cookies

Even though the cookies listed above are essential, you retain the right to delete or block them through your browser settings. Doing so may affect the functionality of Plantle (you may be logged out after each page refresh or lose your saved score).
